Review of Halloween (2018) by Codynewlon — 21 Oct 2018
Halloween 2018 really disappointed me. I was looking forward to it and it was my most anticipated horror film of the year. In the end it became boring and uninteresting. The story had no substance. It didn't feel like it had anywhere to go, but to have random empty characters killed off.
The characters don't really do anything, but run around, hide and try to be smart. Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) was the only character worth investing into, because she had a lot to bring to the story, but we don't even get enough of her.
You can tell Jamie Lee Curtis was enjoying her time making this film too and it shows in her performance and the film was hurting not having her in it a whole lot. Laurie's family was worthless. They don't do anything worth caring about.
The dad dies and I didn't even care, because he didn't serve any purpose. The side story with the granddaughter was poorly brought to the audience and boring. The mother is annoying and didn't really convince me that her life growing up with her mother was really as bad as she make it out to be.
The atmosphere was confusing. I definitely could see that John Carpenteresque tone and look to it. It really felt like they really wanted to bring back the old feel of what made the original into a style of horror.
The score was awesome. It was nice hearing the old synth sounds and theme song from John and Cody Carpenter. There was a really cool single shot scene in the movie though and it really brought a unique feel and tone to the film and it really brought Halloween back to life.
It really felt like the film was elevating, but shortly it was undercutted with stupid comedic lines or a jumpscare noise. Oh my god, everytime Michael Myers shows up to kill someone theres a stupid jumpscare noise, and it really ruins the atmosphere that the film is trying to convey through out Michael's character and the film itself.
Please, stop the jumpscares noises, it doesn't work at all. I honestly wouldn't see this again until it comes out on Blu Ray or something. It's boring and I would watch the original sequel over this one.
But go watch it and tell me what you think about it. This is only my opinion.
