Review of Halloween (2018) by Edoardo M — 23 Oct 2018
Atmosphere was great, the soundtrack was great, Michael was creepy, he looked great, the acting was good, there were some really good tense scenes in the movie as well.
Most of the people not liking this film are either, confused because they didn't actually read anywhere that this movie takes place 40 years after the original and only the original Halloween, not any of the others, not H2O, etc. Laurie does not have a son etc.
Others say that it just isn't like the first one, clearly it isn't. But saying that it is trash, is also completely wrong. It's a fun movie, there were some dumb jump scares and dumb character actions but there was much less of that here, even in Halloween 1, does anyone remember how Laurie literally drops her knife and doesn't do anything but cry 3 feet away from Michael, turning her back to him like an idiot. It happened in Halloween 1, and it'll happen here. Doesn't ruin the movie either.
Some people hated the beginning build up, which makes no sense because it just hypes it up more for when Michael gets out and you truly get a sense for how evil he is, you get Loomis tapes etc.
And some people hated the out of place comedy and the Doctor scene for example, the comedy is weird at times but it was there as a call back to the ridiculously goofy cops in Halloween 5, everything that seems weird is actually an Easter egg that people who probably only saw the first movie (I don't blame them either) won't understand. Furthermore, the crazy Doctor twist, follows one of the themes of the movie, "Dont mess around with evil", He tried to study it for so long that he really wanted to understand what Michael felt, why he did what he did, and so he tried it himself, he was corrupted by it. Don't Rudy evil, destroy it. Yes, maybe it was presented poorly, but again with some thinking and such, it isn't horrendous of an idea and it certainly doesn't break the movie at all.
Also, some people say Michael was supposed to be human and taken seriously but here he is surviving attacks like Freddy Krueger, First off, no he does not survive anything absolutely ridiculous, he is far more human here, and since when was he just some human in a mask, does anybody again remember in the first one, when he gets shot 6 TIMES! Falls off a balcony. AND IS STILL ALIVE! It's like these people never watched the first movie. He survives more ridiculous stuff in the first movie, he's the most human here I would even say.
This movie is a Halloween movie, it's certainly better than all the other sequels I would say, while not as creepy and Offering the Shape stalking like in the first Halloween as much as say killing people, the jolts, music, tenseness, are all well done and worth watching.
Like what did some people expect too, Some Shakespearean quotes being thrown around. Sheesh!t of all.
