I'm very disappointed about the movie. I had very high expectations, because John Carpenter himself participated in the production. But Halloween 2018 is a very bad movie. Why? Not because of the plot.
The writer had very good ideas to vary the common structure of a slasher movie. But the problem is, that the movie has no movement, literally. What we see is a series of individual sequences, which are not connected with each other.
You hardly ever see characters moving/driving/walking whatever from one place to another. There is no connection between places. Charakters just appear at a place, but you don't get an idea of their motivation to go there - or the explanation comes afterwards.
That's why the movie seems to stand still. The many references to the original movie from 1978 are nice but have no impact to lift the movie on a higher level.
