Review of Halloween (2018) by Byron S — 18 Oct 2018
While this has the modern sheen and nostalgic Gen-X giddiness of seeing one of the silver screen fiends back in action, the lackluster script leaves tons of questions and very little to be admired. The acting is unbelievably mediocre, many scenes don't mesh tonally, overall it's just an overall waste of potential.
For all the hype of being Curtis' final foray into the series, she already played that record and much more convincingly with Halloween: H20 and therein lies Halloween 2018 retcon problem. H20 covered the exact same ground better and while its dated with Dimension film 90s horror trappings, it's still the superior direct sequel with a definitive ending.
The only true hilight here is the cinematography and John Carpenter' score particularly the great hauntingly tense track, The Shape Hunts Allyson.
