Review of Halloween (2018) by Johnny C — 18 Oct 2018
A great sequel that gets rid of years of nasty baggage. Halloween does a great job of mixing small amounts of humor, large amounts of gore, and a fantastic cast. For starters, the humor is in small doses throughout the film, and creates a personality for the characters in it. Second, the gore isn't over the top, but creates a sense that Micahel is back and ready. Some deaths are nods to previous throughout the series, and others are new and creative. They create a good sense of horror and fear that Micahel has been waiting to feed his insatiable bloodlust. Lastly, the cast does a fantastic job. The cast portrays each character in typical Halloween fashion. Jamie Lee Curtis does amazing as allows and so do her counterparts. I tip my hat to the writers and directors of this film for such a great rollercoaster of horror, fear, suspense, and story.
My only issue with the film is the story lacks a good 5-10 minutes of tying up loose ends. Please don't read farther if you do not want anything SPOILED. Michael was not shot in the first film so he is alive. Myers was captured by officer Dawkins rather than being shot 5-6 times in the torso. How he was captures, what happened during that process, and how they managed to keep him contained for so many years are all things I want answered. The last one question is a simple one but one sentence would've done that question justice.
Otherwise, the film was amazing and different in the best way possible. It stuck to its roots and yet expanded it all in a short hour and forty minutes. The film does not drag at all and I would recommend it to old fans, horror buffs, or even newcomers to a bloody franchise.
