Review of Halloween (2007) by Riff J — 16 Jul 2016
It's not comparable to the original Carpenter classic, but it's hands down better than 99% of the other movies nowadays labelled as "horror". Adapting to Dr. Loomis as a bit of a prick takes getting used to, but Michael is almost as chilling and interesting as the original, which says a lot. This is the first Halloween sequel since Halloween 2 that is watchable... that in itself is a huge relief for Halloween fans.
Rob Zombie does a masterful job of presenting the storyline in a manner that makes sense. Michael is driven to madness by the surrounding chaos. He massacres people for a reason... each person who died did so due to a very real reason. Zombie must be commended for bringing thoughtfulness and depth to the horror genre. This isn't just gore for the sake of gore... anyone classifying this movie as much totally missed the point.
