Review of Halloween (2007) by Dan H — 25 Aug 2016
Rob Zombie re-imagines one of the most iconic horror monsters ever, using very little imagination in the process. Not only does he de-mystify the character (humanizing him, what the fuck?!), he also makes the rest of the cast into a bunch of intolerable a-holes and enjoys making constant references to the original.
The first 2 acts are just awful (as is the entire script), but the ending does pick it up a little bit. Malcolm McDowell is fantastic as Loomis and is the only bright spot in another wise derivative, dark, ugly film that hews too closely to the original for this tired remake to stand apart as it's own thing (for Christ's sake the characters are even watching The Thing From Another World during the slaughter.
....how much more uninspired and unoriginal can you get? The film is also filled with needless shaky cam shots). Long story short: Rob Zombie's Halloween is terrible.
