Review of Half Past Dead (2002) by Steve W — 30 Jul 2010
Steven Seagal's Con Air, but it's definitely not as good as Con Air.
With a main plot line that overshadows the main character's quest, (should be the same) the movie has no real resolution for the main character and that felt cheap.
The direction style was kind of weak. Awkward camera cuts, random slow motion, and it easily could have been smoother and have scenes play out their tension.
As for the plot, it's very cool. Seagal is Sasha, an undercover FBI agent who is looking for the man who shot his wife, and ends up going to jail with a potential informant. Problem is, the first death row inmate of the high tech Alcatraz prison knows where 200 million in gold bars is, and a group of heavily armed and organized baddies want to know its location.
The movie ends with a quick shootout and it all seems very anti-climactic. Seagal only gets to fight once or twice with wires and it left me wanting more.
The prison warden and the prison inmates were entertaining and the general premise of the movie was good, but the second half of the movie falters and fizzles out.
PS. What a waste of Nia Peeples, she doesn't even get to fight Seagal.
