Review of Half Baked (1998) by Lee B — 05 Sep 2010
Caught this again on BET and they didn't sensor much from it. While this is a classic for all of my generation, it is so hit and miss with its jokes. Some are outright hilarious and so off kilter that it is perfect. And it's really casual with some of its mood and conversational humor, which is completely Chapelle's stand-up style. Really, this is a great low-key comedy that you can?t go wrong with, unless you were born after 1992.
Tamra Davis also directed another of my favorite random comedy type movies, Billy Madison. It just throws jokes out there out of nowhere and some stick, others flop, but at least it's getting out there. One thing I can say, from its iconic moments to great performances, anyone who watches it will remember parts of it.
