Review of Hairspray (1988) by Damien K — 15 Jun 2009
It was VERY cute, introducing Rikki Lake, casting Divine in her only uncharacteristic role as a normal wife/mother, and likewise Deborah Harry as a snobby racist. Although not a favorite, the soundtrack was excellent and the plot commendable; so much better than the more recent film adaptation of the musical.
And this guy was SO much cuter than Zac Efron! I especially admired how the little kids danced just like those in the Charlie Brown cartoons.
