Review of Hairspray (1988) by Jacob A — 30 May 2012
Even though the remake did a good job trying to capture the orginal's orginality. The original will always be the original. This was the movie that introduced me to John Water's personality of filming, I personally love his attacks on certain small things that were about in the time period he is taking his story to. His comedy twist on racism is to die for, I still remember Penny Pingleton's mother having a phobia attack.
The acting had that crisp feeling that it felt like 50's. I was buying everyone's gig. Even Divine's drag moments as Traci Turnblad's mother. This is a must-watch!
