Review of Hail the Conquering Hero (1944) by Craig K — 29 Jan 2008
Misunderstandings and public renunciations -- Preston Sturges makes a film about patriotic momentum that's either for or against it and so is either for or against story structures for America's-mass-entertainment that are based on misunderstandings and public renunciations, depending on whether you the viewer view the flick as self-reflexive critique or as being sincere in its bogged-down'ish'ness.
Hot off of 'The Miracle of Morgan's Creek,' Eddie Bracken and William Demarest do more yelling.
