Taking place during the most bloodiest battle of WWII at Okinawa, this biographical drama not only surprises in term of its pacing and humors but also its strong hopefulness context that lands a powerful true story.

As a director, Gibson does not waste time in introducing the background of the protagonist, it sums up effectively, progresses into the training, conflicts within army and further directly into the violence war.

It's thrilling, masterfully handled battle scenes including sickening bloody sequences to endure but it does not lose its rhythm in telling vivid stories that evoke thoughts and intense feelings. Andrew Garfield is certainly a right choice as Desmond Doss, a military medics who saves 75 men without firing or carrying a gun through his impressive performance of breathtaking courageous acts.

Overall, this old-fashioned war drama told in a sterling modern way inspires an important message - we shall stand strong on our own life principal even if others may have disagreed, as long as it is the right one.
