Review of Gummo (1997) by Paige A — 01 Mar 2010
I love this film. It basically about an hour and a half of vignettes surrounding an small town in Ohio that got completely ravaged by a tornado and pretty much still hasn't recovered by the time the present setting comes around. It features alot of odd things: [SPOILERS] a boy who kills cats by putting glass in tuna for money to help take care of his comatose grandmother, and also takes glamour shots of himself in full makeup and female clothes; a set of redneck sisters who lose their cat; a man who prostitutes his mentally challenged sister out to underaged boys; an albino dating ad; a boy in shorts and bunny ears; and two jehovahs witness boys who supposedly killed their parents. All of these scenes bring us back to two local boys, Solomon and Tummler.
Genius lurks around in this interesting movie, waiting to be recognized. Watch this before you're dead.
