Review of Gummo (1997) by Tommy D — 20 Jul 2012
I don't really know what to make of this movie. I... kind of like it.
It's dark and disturbing, yet a fascinating look at the "white trash" in a depressing run down town. The soundtrack is good, and some of the camera work was very well done. And the acting wasn't that bad either.
Some parts of the story seem a little out of place, and some of the dialog was poorly written, but honestly.. who cares? It's a Harmony Korine film. It's not perfect.
I didn't expect to like it, ever since I was exposed to the god awful "Trash Humpers" but this is by far superior and I actually consider this a movie.
So well done Harmony. I haven't seen any other films by you.. but I might actually be checking them out.... Uh-oh.. am I turning into a Harmony Korine fan?
