Review of Gulliver's Travels (2010) by Brad R — 25 May 2011
THE VERDICT?
I was expecting much worse and so was pleasantly surprised with this perfectly mundane reboot of the Jonathan Swift classic.
Jack Black will only ever act like Jack Black, and whilst he IS ok in this role some of the time at other times his routine is pretty tired now and and he will be hard pressed to amuse anything but the kids. Weeing on Billy Connolly the greatest comedian in the world could be seen as sybolism for how low comedy in movies has sunk in the last few years...
CGI laziness acts as style over substance throughout. The kids might be amused for half the time but if you want to see Gulliver's Travels stick to the 1960 film with the awesome (and still charming) special effects of Ray Harryhausen!
