Review of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967) by Bailey A — 02 Sep 2017
Stanley Kramer provides us with a tightly focused look at tolerance in the late 1960s. Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy portray the affluent and liberal parents of Katharine Houghton, who brings home her fiancee (Sidney Poitier) one day to meet the parents one fine day.
What ensues is touching and at times infuriating, but the way its directed it feels almost necessary. Watching three of the finest film thespians ever (Hepburn, Tracy, and Poitier) interact with high levels of barbed and honest dialogue is a treasure.
Some of it seems highly dated at this point; but making a picture like this at it's time was daring and innovative.
