I have read some negative reviews of this movie, and I am dumbfounded. How someone could consider this poor acting is beyond me. I love this movie, but then again I am currently in an interracial relationship.

I have been married for a number of years to a beautiful woman from Africa; I remember the awkward silences and sheer determination it took to convince others of our love for each other. I wouldn't say that this is a perfect movie, but Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn did a fantastic job.

If your cup of tea is something like The Old Man and the Sea or The African Queen with Katharine Hepburn then you will always be disappointed. Personally, I would rank Lilies of the Field or To Sir, With Love as my favorite Sidney Poitier films, but those aren't about interracial relationships; those movies are fantasy to me, and this one is an honest, unflinching view of two worlds colliding.

If you are young then watch Jungle Fever or Save the Last Dance, they are light on content and easy to absorb in one sitting.
