Review of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) by Nandan T — 14 Aug 2017
SPOILER ALERT!

When Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) was released, it had become a huge success. Critics as well as fans loved it, and everyone was humming its songs. Naturally, when a sequel was announced, it had to fill the big shoes of its predecessor.
Sequels don't do well in the superhero genre or in any genre actually. Though this film is not all bad, it doesn't match up with the first one. The funky tunes are back and the film is a visual spectacle full of colours.
Where it lacks though is with its villains and character development. Let's talk about character development first. Only some of our characters get the spotlight in this film. As it explores Peter's parentage we learn a bit more about him, Youndu, Gamora and Nebula. Whereas Rocket and Drax are pushed aside.
The villains come off as boring. I don't like films where they make the bad guy look good at first and later reveal their true intentions. The Gold people aren't very memorable either. Most of the jokes do not land and feel forced.
While this sequel isn't on par with the first one, it still keeps you interested, and is still worth watching. Stay till the end of the film for FIVE after-credits scenes.
