Review of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) by Tammy H — 31 Jul 2017
Disappointing at best, the majority of the comedy in this movie is so forced and weak, these attempts at humor are sometimes completely unnecessary and ruin scenes entirely, either taking away suspense or busting in on an important scene for a character, taking away from what he/she is going through making it difficult to care about them and it's distracting.
While the original contained a lot of comedy, it was well executed and didn't take away from the story and instead added to it. Peter and Gamora's relationship is so uninteresting and it's about all either of them talk about.
I can say however, Rocket Raccoon and Yondu were the only thing saving this movie from me despising it as the comedy surrounding them (for the most part) is witty, well-placed and genuinely funny and they lead to the only laughs I got out of the movie.
Baby Groot was only there for the marketing as people are drawn to cute things even if they turn out to be absolutely useless. Peter and his dad couldn't keep my interests throughout the movie and it all seemed kind of ridiculous to me, in my opinion this movie could have done A LOT of things better, and the comedy could have been much better written.
