Review of Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) by Jacob B — 16 Apr 2017
A tremendously entertaining entry within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Guardians of the Galaxy delivers the stellar action sequences...and then some. Boasting humour, stunning visuals with Rocket Racoon and Groot being wonderfully realized and a pleasantly retro soundtrack that even kids who were raised within the 21st century who like the same songs about sex will enjoy.
Each actor's performance is great and they seem to become the character. Why is it that Vin Diesel's most critically acclaimed films are the ones where he's someone who isn't much of a talker and has generally limited vocabulary.
You'll see what I mean if you read my review of The Iron Giant. I highly anticipate the sequel and can't wait to see what role the Guardians will play in stopping Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.
Like most of the entries, whether they be cinematic or televised, within the MCU, you don't really need to be familiar with the comics to enjoy this movie. The film can be enjoyed as a stand-alone movie.
To compare this movie with Star Wars is just plain ridiculous. This one manages to stand on its own. I may have seen neither Slither nor Super...yet but you've amazed me by showing us your cinematic gifts with this movie James Gunn.
