Review of Grumpier Old Men (1995) by Jamie C — 19 Jun 2007
Lemmon & Matthau return for a sequel, to the surprise 1993 hit. With John & Ariel now married, Max is alone. Despite there sumo boat matches on the lake, the two are now the best of friends, and when they find out that there beloved bait shop, which belonged to there late friend Chuck, is being turned into an Italian resteraunt.
They go to war with the owner (played by Sophia Loren), but Max soon finds him self smitten with her. Also, they're busy planning the wedding for Jacob (Kevin Pollak) and Melanie (Daryl Hannah). But when things go awry, the gloves are off again!.
Burgess Meredith is yet again hilarious as the scene stealing 'pop', which would be his last big screen role before his death in 1997. Matthau & Lemmon tried again with "The Odd Couple II" and "Out to Sea" but they just couldn't recapture the magic they had in these two movies.
