Review of Grudge Match (2013) by Rex A — 05 Jan 2014
This really could have been more than it was. What we got, however, was a cheap Rocky knockoff that fails in every attempt to be funny. I didn't laugh, or even chuckle, once. GROWN UPS 2 is funnier than this movie, and that's truly sad.
The characters are cardboard cutouts with bare-bones, lazy development and progression. To top it all off, the final fight is probably the worst-made athletic contest I've ever seen in a sports movie.
The camera work is shoddy and disorienting and it drags on way more than it has a right to. I really feel bad that Stallone, the writer of Rocky, subjected himself to this film. Rocky has more passion, heart, and creative plotting in one scene than this movie has in its entirety.
Supporting members Alan Arkin and Kevin Hart produce some slightly watchable moments, but that's about the only positive I can give this thing.
