Review of Grudge Match (2013) by Brian D — 15 Apr 2014
Despite mediocre previews, I was looking forward to Peter Segal's "Grudge Match", as I was a big fan of his underrated "Get Smart". Sadly, the previews ended up being more funny than the actual movie.
The only real fun parts are when Stallone and De Niro are doing promotional bits together leading up to their big final fight, but those are far and few in-between each other. Kevin Hart and Alan Arkin are only there to do what they do in every movie, and Kim Basinger is given a thankless role in here.
Where "Get Smart" had a fast-paced spy story, almost every other scene in here is just slapstick that comes and goes so abruptly that they feel like they should've stayed on the cutting room floor.
I certainly don't hate it like I did "Grown Ups 2", but there's so few points I so much as chuckled that I've got to give this a Pass.
