Review of Grown Ups (2010) by Mike S — 17 Apr 2013
There are a few lines in this supposed comedy about middle-aged men re-living their Grade 6 glory days that are actually funny. But most of the jokes fall completely flat. The film is also far too long and tries to squeeze in too many different stereotypical plot lines, including a grade-school sports re-match, family bonding during a rustic vacation, accepting that we must all grow up sometime, and male bonding.
It's just a mishmash of too many ideas that explode in all directions, leaving a bad taste in your mouth. And if that last sentence sounds like it's mixing too many metaphors... well, that's kind of how this movie plays out.
