Review of Groundhog Day (1993) by Noemy A — 03 Apr 2012
Groundhog Day.
"Groundhog Day" star William James Murray is a very funny actor. Just hearing his name makes people smile. This movie is full of his style of comedy. "Groundhog day" is a romantic comedy. Even though this movie was produced a long time ago, commercials, dramas and movies have made parodies of this movie.
In the movie, Phil repeats the same day over and over trying to overcome his frustrations while also doing whatever he wants to do since he feels hopeless about his situation. Phil, who is a selfish weather forecaster, goes to cover events that take place on Groundhog's Day at a town in Pennsylvania. He is accompanied by Larry and Rita. However, he doesn't like the small, rural town in Pennsylvania. He can't go home because of the snow, so he stays another day at the local place. After that, Phil repeats the same day over and over again. He breaks the clock, steals money, commits crimes and commits suicide since he can't escape the situation. So, accepting his hopeless situation, he decides to make his time more useful and learns the piano, carves ice sculptures and works to make other people around him happier. Eventually, he falls in love with Rita. In the end, he gets love and he also breaks free from the situation where tomorrow never comes.
This movie is more than a simple romantic comedy. The movie delivers a message to people not to take every day for granted. What I found interesting about the plot was that the movie didn't drag out the changes. It could have been boring if the movie showed every detail that occurred when each day repeated. However, it only showed the important parts and made it funny and not tedious.
The film says that every day is a precious and showed us how to find true love. This movie left a deep impression as a romantic comedy rather than it simply being just a movie to laugh about. Imagination was greatly used to produce this movie and I recommend it to anyone looking for an interesting and funny movie.
