Review of Groundhog Day (1993) by Chad C — 25 Dec 2012
Great movie, I loved it! Such an inspiring and funny comedy.
However, if I may make some professional editorializations...
I really think Bill Murray missed out on a golden opportunity here to expand the movie's target audience. I mean, don't get me wrong, the humor was decent, but there's not a lot in here for those who are looking for an action thriller. It's a real shame, especially considering the context of THIS movie. A guy can do whatever he wants, and relive the same day with no consequences, and he passes up an opportunity to go at it GTA style? I'm disappointed.
Here's my suggestion. (Warning: Minor plot spoilers follow).
There's a scene in the movie where Phil, the main character, catches a boy just as he's falling out of a tree (he knows this because already he's lived it). I'm thinking, instead of catching the kid, he could just punt the sucker for a really NOICE combo! In fact, since he already knows it's going to happen, I would say why not step back a few hundred feet and get a real nice running start? And then, when it actually happens, make sure to get a really nice close-up shot, I mean everything! The works! I'm talking slow-mo, instant replay, trajectory cam, you name it. Man, I'm telling you, there are some sick fuckers out there who would pay to see that kind of shit. You could even have a big "MULTI KILL" counter for every time he does it (obviously he's got to do it more than once, since he's probably not going to get it right the first time).
Just my 2 cents.
