Review of Groove (2000) by Rich B — 21 Sep 2004
Groove (2000) ? Greg Harrison writes, edits, produces and directs a story about a group of kids on the circuit one night in San Francisco. The film chronicles one particular rave from beginning to end, following the young promoter and a select group of the kids as they drop and cook through the night and into the next morning: a rave hi-lite film.
I?ve been to a few of these myself, although my experience has been exclusively with legitimate venues. The setup and defense of an illegal site was interesting, although x-toasted kids and droves of ravers arriving from busted venues would eventually force the cops to get involved.
Pretty well done all the way around, but when I ejected the disc I felt sort of vacant, like I had just watched five minutes worth the content stretched over an hour and a half, which I suppose was intentional. Along the way, a couple of the characters had significant experiences, but a good college dorm party could bring about the same results. So, in the final analysis, it was all about the music and the drugs. The music I know, and the music was great.
