Review of Grizzly Man (2005) by Sophie B — 01 Dec 2009
Exploits the life and death of an insane man with whom no one can relate. timothy treadwell is portrayed as a loony with few if any redeeming qualities. it's "educational" in sort of a real-life cannibal holocaust way, though cannibal holocaust actually featured legitimate social commentary.
When you boil it down to its essence, grizzly man's the misadventures of a loser who just happened to get himself and his girlfriend eaten by a bear. it could've been a thought-provoking documentary, specifically in regard to entering foreign environments with good intentions but limited understanding of the environment, or an inability/refusal to see the environment-on which they are encroaching-on its own terms. but it wasn't.
