Review of Grizzly Man (2005) by James O — 31 May 2011
Powerful, mesmerising and disturbing documentary. Treadwell was certainly naive and quite possibly insane but his finding of peace amongst the animals which would eventually kill him and his mysterious girlfrind is both touching and haunting. Herzog's narrative about the chaos and cruelty of nature is an interesting juxtaposition to Treadwells view of a peaceful nature. He may have been self-deluded but he left behind some of the most stunning nature footage ever filmed.
The soundtrack by British Folk musician Richard Thompson fits the bleakness of the film very well.
