Review of Grizzly Man (2005) by Joe F — 25 Aug 2011
Going in, I had a feeling "Grizzly Man' would be how it was. I was expecting most of what went on. Until, I got emotionally connected to Timothy Treadwell. A truly magnificent man from my perspective, because he went against society's "ethics" and strove for what he wanted, no questions asked. I have heard the majority of online gossipers say he deserved to be killed. Well, he did, and he didn't. He survived amongst one of natures most feared predators; grizzly bears, for years without a hint of a problem. The reason he had no issues before the incident, is because he had a rare gift. A gift so truly magical in my eyes. I would love to befriend a bear, but I just wouldn't dare. So, my point being, he was a unique specimen. Someone who loved what he loved, and that is so rare in today's age. Most people are completely the opposite, going with what society tells us we should abide by. The film is beautifully shot, with various clips of his many adventures in Alaska, filmed pretty much in the correct order. What you will see is completely real, beautiful, and truly something special to witness. Grizzly Man really moves you emotionally, and had me dripping tears a lot at the end. If a film does that, and at the same time inspires me largely, it is remarkable, and I consider this documentary to be a masterpiece.
R.I.P Tim!
