Review of Grey Gardens (2009) by Robert W — 23 Sep 2008
As a documentary, it's rather poor; As exploitation, it's amazing entertainment. The Maysles brothers don't make any effort to really dig into the lives the Ediths, or try to come to any conclusions about the way they came to be how they were. They just throw the cameras on and see what happens. And what happens is wildly entertaining.
Also, I'm confused as to how Jackie Kennedy can be considered a fashion icon when trailblazers like her cousin, Little Edie Beale exist.
