Review of Grey Gardens (2009) by Angela L — 25 May 2011
I really wanted to love this groundbreaking documentary, which goes inside the hermitic world of Big Edie and Little Edie Beale - Jackie O's eccentric aunt and cousin - who lived in a flea-ridden dilapidated mansion in East Hampton, Long Island in the 1970s - but I just couldn't get into it.
Although the Edies are charmingly strange - they remind me of my relatives in Minnesota - and Little Edie is a particularly sad and lonely character that represents lost potential - I just lost interest after about 15 minutes.
A fascinating historical document? Yes. An interesting documentary? No.
