Review of Grey Gardens (1976) by Goldenrod P — 31 Dec 2007
This movie is just sooo fascinating. I remember hearing about the Edies when I was growing up in Upstate NY. They were the black sheep of the Bouvier family because of their living conditions in the Hamptions.
You heard rumours like they had 200 cats, 27 rooms filled with raccoons, etc. While some of that is true, when you watch it you become completely mesmerized by Little Edie and big Edie. Little Edie is especially iconic with her philosophies on life, etc.
It is also pretty depressing when you see how they were basically living in filth. I was fortunate enough to see the Broadway show they made based on these two and Christine Ebersole really had Edie down to a tee.
Anyway this is a must see especially if you are familiar with the now famouse one liners thanks to Edie.
