Review of Grey Gardens (1976) by Michelle T — 27 Apr 2013
A fascinating documentary on a reclusive mother and daughter who had such a strange, dysfunctional relationship. So fascinating that it was hard to watch, yet hard to look away. These women lived in a made-up fantasy world of their own, and so delusional, naive and blind to the outside world that they were unable to function in it.
The filmmakers went to great lengths to get to know the women so well that they willing and eager subjects who completely let their guard down for this film so that all could see inside. If you view this documentary before viewing the recently releasted Grey Gardens HBO movie with Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange, it will enhance your experience of the new movie.
