Review of Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990) by Kelan W — 02 Aug 2011
Warner Bros. wanted a sequel to the wildly popular "Gremlins", and gave director Dante carte blanche to make one. While satirizing Donald Trump and smart buildings may age poorly, the real problem is that Charlie Haas' script amounts to little more than a large pile of cartoon gags - with much less character development than the original.
Rick Baker's effects work is a technical improvement, but the lavish detail is less appealing, focusing more on the gross-out monsters than their fuzzy progenitors. Christopher Lee is a standout as a genetic scientist who gleefully collects diseases.
