Review of Gremlins (1984) by Stephen S — 18 Jun 2011
For me, this film brings back great memories. I used to love it when I was a kid, and I practically knew the film by heart. So, it makes me happy when I'm able to watch it again years later and see that it has aged remarkably well, and even better, I can still find it thoroughly enjoyable.
There's nothing quite like Gremlins: at any given time, it can be hilarious, sad, disturbing, scary, and downright charming. Very few films can successfully convey these sentiments throughout without it feeling forced.
Gremlins takes this one step further: it switches between various emotional atmospheres at will...one moment you'll be caught up in the charming, nostalgic, small town vibe, and then completely unnerved in the next moment, unsure of what's about to happen.
Like I said, there's nothing quite like this film. It's a recent classic, so if you haven't seen it, definitely check it out...anyone could enjoy this great film.
