Buckets of charm, a simple story, a slightly off beat but very real feel of what was involved in being a teenager in the 80s (and the 90s, in many ways). John Gordon Sinclair is perfectly cast as the awkward Gregory, with a supporting cast around him who play the teens and teachers of the school with ease (possibly brought on by the origins of the film which means they were what they played), along with a gem of a cameo by Chic Murray.

Is it perfect? No, not on a technical level. The term shoestring is exemplified by this film, the timing of the performances and delivery is occasionally off. However, in some ways, this helps creat the atmosphere of the film, which draws you in and leaves you feeling very much part of it.

A gem, worth 5 stars because of its kind it is the lesson in how it should be done.
