Review of Greenberg (2010) by Jake M — 02 Jul 2012
I'm one of the few people who like this movie. I think I like this niche film so much because I have a bit of an annoying personality that occasionally pops out to display itself on my ugly head, and also Rhys Ifans.
I got into the character and towards the end even empathized with him just a little bit, which impressed me that Baumbach could do that with such an unlikable character. This is probably the only solo project of his that I like.
What problems I have with it are as follows: Greenberg is too much of a prick at times, and the last problem is that Greta Gerwig is just way too easy here. Make no mistake, she's hot and I don't mind seeing the sex scenes but there's really no believable explanation of the quirky crush.
Overall a good film but definitely not for everyone. If you can't stomach an unlikable lead then stay far, far away.
