Review of Greenberg (2010) by Jarkko S — 20 Nov 2010
While not fulfilling in any conventional cinematic sense, Noah Baumbach's latest offering is a smartly written and deftly directed slice of modern life. Ben Stiller has made his name by playing protagonists who, while patently dysfunctional, are nonetheless endearing.
But these characters have all been too cartoonish to be real people. Stiller's character in Greenberg is the culmination of all he has done before. Watching his performance in Greenberg is like seeing the characters he has played if they were real people, without their comically exaggerated nuances.
As such, it is Stiller's finest performance.
