Review of Greenberg (2010) by Adam F — 16 Jan 2011
Baumbach is great. That's all there is to it. He's like the darker version of Wes Anderson. In fact, they collaborated a couple of times (Life Aquatic & Fantastic Mr. Fox). People that didn't like this movie hated on it because of how unlikable the characters were. But that's what Baumbach does so well... he makes awkward and unlikable characters. And you know what? I like them! I'm not a Stiller fan. Frankly I can't stand him. But every now and then he surprises me (Permanent Midnight anyone?). Not sure that anyone else could have played this role.
Best line of the film:
IVAN: Youth is wasted on the young.
GREENBERG: I'd take it a step further. Life is wasted on... people.
