Review of Greenberg (2010) by Caesar B — 17 Aug 2014
One of the best character studies I'v e seen in more recent years. Ben Stiller, who's never been better, plays a forty year old former musician who recently suffered a mental breakdown and spent some time in a mental institution.
He flies out to California to look after his brothers house and dog. While there, he makes a connection with his brothers assistant, a college dropout with some issues of her own. The cast is great, especially Rhys Ifans as Stiller's best friend.
Baumbach's script is exceptionally well written. This would make a perfect companion piece to his earlier work, the modern masterpiece that is The Squid and the Whale.
