Review of Green Street Hooligans (2005) by Anthony B — 12 Apr 2010
This film isn't just about football hooliganism. Hooliganism is just an aspect in the film that brings keywords like brotherhood and 'stand your ground' to the foreground.
This film, more than any other film I've seen, learns the viewer that you have to 'stand your ground' in life to actually survive, be succesful in what you do. In this world, where having power over people because they are less wealthy, less intelligent and/or are from a different race still exists in variable ways we have to stand tall and stand proud on who we are and where we come from and don't let other people run over your pride and stamp on it like it's a filthy rat.
We have to defend our pride, like the hooligans in the film defend their team and brothers. For pride is one of the few things that really belongs to us individuals, and makes us who we are, it's like our life's art.
Oh, I almost forgot to say that women won't understand this movie. They'll probably think it's one of those stupid male pride things, so they'll offer us guys to watch the new episode of Grey's Anatomy or some other bullshit tv-series. So don't lisen to them (unless you're a wuss), but enjoy the movie and perhaps you can learn to stand your ground when another guy tries to break your arm instead of screaming like a little bitch.
Enjoy!
