Review of Green Room (2016) by Sarah P — 24 Aug 2016
Honestly, I was quite disappointed in this film. I ASUMED since Patrick Stewart and Anton Yelchin was in the film it had to be worthy of watching. I need to point out that two Star Trek stars are in the film before I continue.
The directing I enjoyed quite well. The director captured emotion with the help of editing and close ups. Jeremy Saulnier has a unique vision which stand out from others and I wouldn't hesitate in watching another one of his films. I could pick out literal symbols of chaos before it happened which was fun to pin point. The plot follows the typical hostage story of blood, guts, revenge, blood, guts, and maybe rescue. Let's face it, this story never gets old. The film would go from fast paced in the story to extremely slow. As far as the actor's performance goes, it was hard to tell if they were trying to be passive or if this was just a bad film for these amazing talents. The sound was a big disturbance for me. The music would be blaring loud then I could hardly hear the conversation of the actors. Was it meant for me to turn captions on? After the film ended, I was left confused. The film has potential but somewhere along the line, whether, budget, editing, poor writing, or time constraints it left me regretting watching the film. The reviews for this film had amazing results which is why I chose to watch it. But I just don't get it. What do you think?
