Review of Green Room (2016) by Mo B — 31 Dec 2016
Visceral disturbance violence. That's what I felt while watching and walked away with. After "Blue Ruin", one of the best films of 2014, I was eagerly awaiting Saulnier next film. Unfortunately I found this to be not as good.
For me it comes down to the connection to the character. I felt so much more connection and empathy to the protagonist in "Blue Ruin" that I didn't feel in "Green Room". I am averse to violence on screen when it feels like it just exist to shock, and I felt a bit of that feeling in this film.
Still good, still well done, but needs a little more character.
