Review of Green Room (2016) by Greg B — 03 May 2016
"Green Room" is a new age horror film about a punk rock band who is trapped in an Oregon roadhouse after they witness a grisly murder. They are trapped in their dressing rooms and are in a harrowing fight with the owner of the club for survival.
I thought this horror film was very different compared to the average horror film, but in a good way. There is a sense of awareness the victims have, and rather than being idiots who accrue body bags, they actually knew how to survive.
The movie is pervaded with a potent sense of nihilism and a dog-eat-dog mentality. These kids figure out no one is coming for them, and they know they are their only hope for survival. It is interesting to see the changes in these characters as they figure out what they must do to survive.
It makes for a captivating film ------------------------------------------------ B.
