Review of Green Lantern: First Flight (2009) by Dan W — 28 Jul 2009
I am a newbie when it comes to Green Lantern. I have no clue who Hal Jordan, John Stewart, or Guy Gardner are. Up until a month ago, I didn't even know there were other Batteries, or other elements. I am however, a giant fan of the Detective Comics Animated Universe. It started with "JLA: New Frontier", "Batman: Gotham Knight", "Superman: Doomsday", "Wonder Woman", and now onto Green Lantern. I was first attracted to this flick by its casting of Law&Order SVU's, Christopher Meloni as the lead [Hal Jordan]. Opposite of him is one of my favorite actor's, Michael Madsen, whom as always portrays a great villain.
Strategically released the week before a new DC Comic's cross-over event, "Blackest Night" (Where Black Power rings bring the dead to life on the day to commemorate the "death" of Superman at the hands of Doomsday... great comic by the way.), First Flight has smooth visuals which are on-par with the rest of the DCAU films. The only difference you may find is that Green Lantern (as I had assumed) is a highly Sci-Fi hero.
The end result? Well... there was a good chunk of action, alot of drama, an amazing storyline, and I can not wait to see the live-action film on the big screen!
