I wasn't really a fan of Green Lantern till recently, I picked up some the comics (Blackest Night arc is epic) and have greatly enjoyed what Geoff Johns & crew have done for the character and that is why I'm slightly disappointed in the new adaptation.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Green Lantern: First Flight but the story was far too over simplified for my liking. They barely spend anytime on the origin of Hal Jordan or the Green Lantern Corps before jumping straight into the action, I really wished they took more time in developing the story and with a 75 minute run-time, an extra 10 minutes could have made a big difference.

While the movie's story leaves a bit to be desired, this movie does have a couple of good things going for it. The 2D animation is great; character models look solid (G.L himself has a weird chin though) and the action looks very good with plently of visually interested battles and cool effects.

The voice cast is also quite decent, Meloni is pretty solid as Jordan / G.L but I thought Michael Madsen delivered an excellent performance as Kilowog. Overall, Green Lantern: First Flight is a fun flick with some good action bits to it but it is sadly lacking quite lot in the story department.

Still, I'm of fan of these DC animated features and G.L is their strongest effort yet; just next time, try to add some more depth to the story.
