Review of Green Lantern (2011) by Joshua J — 14 Aug 2013
There were many problems with the movie, the script being the giant elephant in the room. When the movie came out, I was certainly puzzled, since I didn't know if this meant that it would ultimately lead into a Justice League movie.
And if it did I was shocked that DC would want to jumpstart their cinematic universe with Green Lantern and not Superman or Batman. So I went into the movie with the big question in my head, "Whats the point of this movie?" I admit that might have made me a little prejudices against the movie, but in all honesty it did little to prove me wrong and sway me.
The plot development felt lazy and somehow the realistic feel that DC was going for was drowned out by a huge wave of fantasy based characters. And that in my opinion will be the biggest hurdle that DC and Warner will face.
On a lighter note, while the movie had a myriad of flaws, Ryan Reynolds was not one of them. He did well as Hal and was unfortunately the victim of a poor script. All in all, not a movie worth watching as it pretty much no longer has bearing on the DC cinematic universe.
It will be a small footnote that will be forgotten soon enough, just like Ang Lee's Hulk. Don't bother to watch this. 4/10.
