Review of Green Lantern (2011) by Joyce R — 06 Nov 2014
The Emerald CGI of the Green Lantern Costumes, and particularly the design of the villainous and frightening Parallax, may be awesome and totally unique, but 2011's Green Lantern does have its reasons of being a major let down, I observed that. The screenplay's dialogue remains at a decent level of characters like the protagonist, Hal Jordan, and female lead, Carol Ferris, interacting with each other using straightforward dialogue mixed with honesty - which is good- but after Hal is selected as the first human to possess an emerald ring worn by the guardians of the Universe, the dialogue begins to drop below a certain level, and the audience are presented with boring one-liner jokes from Hal's friend, Tom. If always admitted how irritated I am when a movie doesn't have decent or fine dialogue because it confuses us and leaves us unable to explore different aspects of the characters, their relationships with other characters and how significant they are to the plot.
Actors Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively had a great scene together for a brief moment at the start of the movie, and it's perhaps their best scene in the whole movie as the plot and the dialogue withdraw from the screenplay - subsequent to Jordan's transformation into a Green Lantern.
What I love most about this movie is the awesome production design and particularly science fiction world of the Universe and the sectors of the Green Lantern Corps - if there was a lot in the movie that offered disappointment, these incredible designs and especially the alien designs, were a lot to admire!
